Employment Projections by Industry - 2012 to 2022

New!A new virtual labor market data system for retrieving data is now available. It looks much different than what you were used to, but has even greater functionality--such as the ability to view or export graphs and maps of the data you select. Follow the tips below to find the data you have used this website to find in the past. If you need assistance with this new system, please contact us; we will be happy to help.

Get industry projections data from the virtual LMI data system using the links on this Web page.

Alternately, you may follow our instructions to access industry employment projections from the opening screen of the LMI virtual LMI data system.

Please note, at any point while using the virtual labor market data system, to clear all prior selections, click on the "Labor Market Analysis" link in the upper left-hand corner of the screen.

Follow the steps below to retrieve data for the area(s) of interest. Additionally, click on the Industry currently displayed (default should be "Multiple Industries") to change it. Then choose your method of choice for selecting an industry or multiple industries as you wish. Methods of choosing industry include a key word search, by Industry Sector (North American Industry Classification System, NAICS major sector), an alphabetical industry listing, by Industry Code (NAICS code) or by Level (NAICS sector level). You may make multiple selections by holding down the control key as you click on each option.

South Dakota - Statewide

Industry projections, all industries - Click on the area currently displayed if not already set as "South Dakota" and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose State. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "South Dakota Statewide" option (text or map).

South Dakota - Sub-state

Central Area of South Dakota - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose Broad Geographic Area (BGA). Then from the Area drop-down list, choose "Central Area," then click on the Set Area button if the button appears. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "Specific Broad Geographic Area (BGS)" option (text or map). From the map that is displayed, click on Central Area.

East Area of South Dakota - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose Broad Geographic Area (BGS). Then from the Area drop-down list, choose "East Area," then click on the Set Area button if the button appears. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "Specific Broad Geographic Area (BGS)" option (text or map). From the map that is displayed, click on East Area.

West Area of South Dakota - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose Broad Geographic Area (BGS). Then from the Area drop-down list, choose "West Area," then click on the Set Area button if the button appears. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "Specific Broad Geographic Area (BGS)" option (text or map). From the map that is displayed, click on West Area.

Rapid City Metropolitan Statistical Area - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose Metropolitan Statistical Area. Then from the Area drop-down list, choose "Rapid City SD Metropolitan Statistical Area," then click on the Set Area button if the button appears. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "A Specific Metrpolitan Statistical Area" option (text or map). From the map that is displayed, click on the Rapid City MSA.

Sioux Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area - Click on the area currently displayed to change it as needed and from the Area Type drop-down list, choose Metropolitan Statistical Area. Then from the Area drop-down list, choose "Sioux Falls SD Metropolitan Statistical Area," then click on the Set Area button if the button appears. Or, after clicking on the area currently displayed, you may choose the "Select By Map" option and then click on the "A Specific Metrpolitan Statistical Area" option (text or map). From the map that is displayed, click on the Sioux Falls MSA.

Please note: We made every effort to publish the sub-state industry employment projections at the most detailed industry level possible and for as many industries as possible while following stringent guidelines to ensure the reliability of the estimates and the confidentiality of data provided voluntarily by employers. If data is not available through the links above for a particular industry of interest, it is because it did not meet those standards.
